Cataloguing Module is a standard feature for integrated library systems. Cataloguing module allows management of bibliographic file, authority file and holdings.

The most important feature of the Cataloging module is the ability to define and maintain the MARC format used. System administrator is able to configure MARC format used in cataloguing by setting appropriate definitions: fields, subfields, indicators, help messages (objects to be placed in the simplified version of a model or its extended version) defines the index fields used in search (select subfields to be indexed and indexing expressions that are built with these fields) etc.. All these operations are made at runtime without the need to modify source code or restart application.

Also, system allow to define validation rules for each object (this means that the input data should match a formal rule such as Year, ISBN, or other). Validation applies to the authority files (this means that the values of a particular field must correspond to the values of the associated authority file). Validation also applies to the bibliographic level (this means that before being accessed by public, records must be approved by a authorized cataloguer).

Further, the system administrator defines (at runtime) templates for each type of material in accordance with the rules described in MARC format and the need of the library. Each department can have its own template for a specific record type.

Finally, system administrator sets access rights to users and user classes for common operations (read, modify, insert, or delete). Rights can be set at field, subfield or indicator level. By setting rights you can define the workflow in accordance with the specific activities of each department.

System can handle multiple MARC formats records in the same database. MARC21 records can coexist with UNIMARC records or any other MARC format records. TinREAD has a "Concepts" layer where therms like author, title, publisher, etc. can be handled in a MARC-independent manner and as a result you will get consistent data when you perform searches on records collections. Also system offer a real-time cross conversion functionality for most of the MARC formats used worldwide.
